A Little More

From flying aircraft to flying drones, Tim Tumelty has had an interesting path that led to AACC. Tumelty arrived in Annapolis as a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy. He then had a 21-year career in the Navy as an aviator and electronic counter measures officer. He flew the EA-6B Prowler for 15 years before spending the last six years of active duty teaching Principles of Naval Weapons Systems at the Naval Academy.

Before coming to AACC in 2019, he worked at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory as a project manager in ground-based electronic warfare for various government sponsors.

Known as “The Drone Guy,” Tumelty is the primary drone instructor and oversees the Drone Center at AACC. Through courses and community outreach, the center provides students and members of the community access to innovative equipment and technical expertise. He is also the advisor to the Drone Club, in which students who are current or aspiring drone pilots can share ideas, knowledge and skills in the exciting field of drones.

“I started my college education in Annapolis as a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy and now more than 30 years later I am back in Anne Arundel County helping others with their quest for a college education,” he said. “Every student has a unique story that brought them to AACC and it is inspirational to help them achieve their goals.”
